JOSHO - JAPANESE IZAKAYA

Project Overview
In this project, we were assigned to interpret a chapter from the book Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. Based on our understanding, we form our own interpretation and translate it into an interior space into our given site at Cineleisure.
Design Intent
Based on the abstract, the interpretation that was a 'life if a human' and when it is translated into design, it is 'rise again'. Thus the name Josho, rise in Japanese.
The design proposed is inspired by the traditional tatami seating. Depending on the number of diners entering the space, the platforms can be raised to accommodate their preference, just like how users are able to choose their preferred seats in the cinema. In Josho, there is no specific configuration of the raised platform seating. By the closing time of the F&B, the raised platforms will return back to its original configuration.
